There are a lot of ways to reuse old shipping containers, houses being a new and more common trend.  Check out these 8 OTHER uses for old shipping containers. Note – #6 is my Fav!

1)Swimming Pool

Because shipping containers are already an almost completely self-contained structure they are great to repurpose as swimming pools.  Above ground or below ground, permanent or mobile, you can repurpose a shipping container into almost any type of pool you choose.  Want to learn how to construct a shipping container swimming pool check this link out – How to build a shipping container swimming pool.

2) Pop Up Restaurant or Shop

I love this idea!  Because shipping containers are built to be moved and sound in structure, they are are an excellent choice in which to base a pop-up shop or restaurant. Shipping containers also offer a blank slate with which to design your floor layout.  Here are some design ideas as seen on Pinterest.

3) Workshop

While this may be an obvious one as many people already utilize shipping containers for outdoor storage and workshops; people don’t always consider actually adding windows and other access points.  Add in workbenches, tools and the like, and there you have it, a new, made for you, workshop.

4) Emergency Station

Now, this is a fantastic concept! A mobile Emergency Center that you are able to move and place almost anywhere. A shipping container emergency station would be great for emergency services operating in remote areas or for outdoor events and festivals. I’d say this is a pretty genius idea!

5) Portable Washroom

Again a great concept for remote workers/places, events, parks, concerts…. The places a shipping container washroom could be used are almost infinite.

6) Sauna

This is my FAVORITE shipping container repurposing idea.  A sauna!  Simply add some insulation, wood paneling and perhaps a door with a window, and a spot for hot rocks and Viola! You have your very own homemade sauna!

7) Office/Temporary Housing

Kind of along the same lines as the washrooms and emergency centers you can also utilize old shipping containers as office space or temporary housing.  In the event of a disaster or for things like transitional housing, festivals, camps, outdoor events and the like.  We at Adams Mobox have recently created a portable office unit from a shipping container.  See photos below.

8) Nursery/Greenhouse

This is an idea I would have never thought of but it is a fantastic one none the less. Like the photo below you can create a greenhouse on top of the container for plants already growing and a place to start seedlings or grow hard to grow plants inside the container.
